The noble enterprise of rescuing cars.
Watching home mechanics work on cars and solve problems is both therapeutic and entertaining. We love them for all kinds of reasons. We’re definitely living vicariously along with their projects, but also seeing cars who need a little love being repaired is like watching abandoned dogs being rescued from the roadside. We might get a bit weepy. Just look at their sad faces turn hopeful while being rolled into a garage (or driveway), and start to get some sympathetic attention…
Ok, we’re back to our safe place. So we’re going to feature YouTube channels that stand out for us, and keep our attention. Here’s the first one.
Seaside Garage is based in Denmark and run by a guy named Seppo. He has a garage full of interesting, less-known and often less-appreciated cars from the 80s and 90s.
But it’s his vanity-free, humble approach that makes it special.
His left-of-center taste in transport is exceptional. Citroëns (CX, XM, BX 4x4, Visa GTi, Mehari, C25 camper) get much attention, along with a Renault 4, Lancia A100 Abarth, Ford Escort, Austin Metro, Rover 114 GTI, Saab 900 Turbo Commander, Austin Princess, Lada Niva, plus a bunch of vintage mopeds (NSU, SCU, Casal, MobyX).
But it’s his vanity-free, humble approach that makes it special. Parts can be hard to source. He may not have the factory tools needed. It’s can be cold outside (and in). Yet he soldiers on, aiming to get his cars in a condition to be driven and enjoyed, though not necessarily restored. A noble enterprise, we think.
There is also an occasionally-seen very cute black cat.
It’s hard to recommend a signature video, but here are a couple that stand out for us.
Some people just mesh with their autos. In style, tone, color, vintage—everything.
